Impact Attenuators
Traffic Impact Attenuators
Avantech offers Traffic Impact Attenuators tested in accordance with NCHRP Report 350 and EN 1317 while meeting the requirements of IRC standards such as IRC:SP84:2014, IRC:SP87:2013 & IRC:SP99-2013
Traffic Impact attenuators are road safety devices installed in front of hazardous locations such as bridge abutments, structural columns on large direction signs, illumination lamp posts, approaching traffic islands of toll plazas, gore areas between diverging roadways etc. so as to act as energy absorbers and mitigate the severity of accidents and reduce the chance of fatality and grievous injury.
As per IRC – SP84:2014, IRC:SP87:2013 & IRC:SP99-2013, the general requirements for installation of traffic impact attenuators are as under:
a) The location where there is a history of more than average number of accidents involving vehicles impacting obstruction
b) The 85th percentile speed of traffic plying through the traffic lane adjacent to obstruction in diverge area is greater than 70 kmph
c) At location where the lane changing manoeuvering of vehicles are substantial.
d) Traffic is required to travel in close proximity to the potential obstruction where it is not feasible to install safety barrier in front of it
e) The obstruction with high value and if damaged by vehicle impact will have serious consequences
f) The gore areas of all diverging which are one level above ground
Some of traffic impact attenuators are offered by Avantech.
QUADGUARD II
TRACC
REACT-II 350
QuadGuard®
Description
QuadGuard traffic impact attenuator meets the requirement of clause no. 9.6 IRC:SP84:2014, IRC:SP87:2013 and tested in accordance with the NCHRP 350 OR EN-1317 Test level 3 (100 kmph).
The QuadGuard® is a redirective, non-gating crash cushion that consists of crushable, energy absorbing cartridges surrounded by a framework of steel Quad-Beam™ panels. to absorb the energy of impact so as to bring the errant vehicle to a controlled stop. The system is tested to NCHRP Report 350 Test Level 1, Test Level 2, and Test Level 3. It can be used to shield fixed objects of 2′ to 10′-6″ wide (610 mm to 3,200 mm) while using less than 22′ in length.
Features
· Replaceable, energy absorbing cartridges.
· Self-supporting plastic nose.
· High strength Quad-Beam™ panels.
· Does not use anchoring chains or tension cables.
· Custom connections available.
· Systems available for various lengths, widths, and speeds.
TRACC
Description
TRACC traffic impact attenuator meets the requirement of clause no. 9.6 of IRC:SP84:2014 and IRC:SP87:2013 and are crash tested to meet the requirements of in NCHRP 350 TL 3 (100kmph) OR EN-1317:3 100 kmph.
The TRACC® qualifies as a re-directive, non-gating, energy absorbing crash cushion tested to NCHRP Report 350 Test Level 3. It can be used for unidirectional or bidirectional applications.
The TRACC® family of crash cushions also includes the ShorTRACC™, a narrow cushion tested to NCHRP Report 350 Test Level 2; the FasTRACC™, a narrow crash cushion tested to NCHRP Report 350 Test Level 3 up to 70 mph (113 km/h); and the WideTRACC™ available for various lengths, widths, and test levels (per design speed) can be configured for appropriate wide applications.
Features
· Galvanized, all-steel construction designed for durability.
· Backup width options and wing extensions available with WideTRACC™.
· Designed to use fewer anchor bolts than comparable crash cushions.
· Tested to NCHRP Report 350 Test Level 3.
· Meets IRC:SP84:2014, IRC:SP87:2013
REACT 350®II
Description
REACT 350®II traffic impact attenuator meets the requirement of clause no. 10.6 of IRC:SP99-2013 and tested in accordance with the NCHRP 350 Test level 3 (100 kmph). The self-restoring Impact Attenuator is designed to take repeated design impacts without any additional recovery procedures and with minimal or no repairs. When impacted from the front, it will absorb energy by compression of six energy absorbing modules moulded from special plastic having self-restoring properties. These energy absorbing modules are securely placed on a hot dip galvanised steel frame anchored to the concrete/ asphalt foundation and restrained by heavy duty wire rope arrangement consisting of heavy galvanized steel wire ropes on each side of the system.
The Impact Attenuator is crash tested and certified as a re-directive, non-gating crash cushion as per NCHRP-350 Test Level 3
The REACT 350® II crash cushion can be used to shield narrow fixed objects of up to 3′ (914 mm) wide.
The system has shown self-restoring characteristics when impacted within NCHRP Report 350 crash test standards at 62 mph by a 1,808 lb. (820 kg) car, or by a 4,409 lb. (2,000 kg) pick-up truck.*
Features
· HMW/HDPE cylinders.
· Optional cylinder covers available.
· Various cylinder wall thicknesses designed to help withstand impact by light cars or heavier, high-center-of-gravity vehicles.
